Conflict

Conflict

An ongoing situation that is based on deep-seated differences of values, ideologies, and goals. The differences are hard to resolve because they reflect the core values of the disputants. The parties may not be influenced by facts and may not want to examine trade-off options.

(Source NCDD, 2004)

Consensus Building - 'a collaborative approach to making a decision in which the interested parties identify common ground and work voluntarily towards finding a mutually acceptable solution to a contentious problem'

(Environment Council, quoted in Sidaway, 1998)
