Networking

THE STRATEGY CONSULTATION IS NOW CLOSED.

Many thanks for all the excellent and useful comments. We are currently planning how the final strategy will be published, which we expect to happen in spring.

If you have any further comments or queries, don't hesitate to get in touch: karin@involve.org.uk.

NETWORKING - BRINGING PEOPLE FROM THE PARTICIPATION AND EMPOWERMENT FIELD TOGETHER
Steers from the Involve visioning day indicated that Involve should:
  • Give greater priority to supporting the network.
  • Support the network to be a more active and central part of how Involve works, by properly resourcing it.
  • Ensure that the network is inclusive, moving beyond the voluntary sector to supporting disadvantaged communities and working with the private sector.

What we will aim to do:

  • Consult and engage network members in developing the network strategy.
  • Research external funders who may support network development.
  • Create a business model which can support network development independent of external funds.
  • Give network development clear priority.

What we will not do:

  • Allow the network to remain as a passive email list.
  • Concentrate out network on any one group, e.g. practitioners, academics or commissioners.

Measuring Success:

  • High levels of interactivity between network members and between network members and Involve staff.
  • High demand for membership of the Involve network.
  • Network becoming self-financing.

What do you think about our Networking plans?

  • Do you think they make sense?
  • Is there anything you do not agree with?
  • Is there anything you think is missing ?
  • Is there anything you do not understand?

It would be nice if you were a bit bolder here - not just 'supporting' but changing. transforming. making a difference.

Would suggest you link back the barriers to participation you mention earlier in the 'challenges affecting people's willingness to participate'.

Sorry - accidentally posted that for the previous section here too.

      On NETWORKING:

Need to make clear how your network adds value and compliments other networks such as the Participation Workers Network for England, the regional interact networks and the more informal peer support networks in regions and cities.

Strongly support much greater priority for the network. The fact that this comes last suggests perhaps you're not quite convinced yet? If the network is seen to come first in your thinking then this acknowledges and recognises  that the whole network are potential contributors to the other things (Advocacy, new thinking, better practice, etc)

Suggest there is a strong need for an organisation such as Involve to tackle the wider question of how to resource networks generally (not just Involve's own network).

Suggest priority for network development should be the face to face stuff (the virtual stuff will take care of itself over time) avoiding anything remotely top down, but not necessarily going to the opposite extreme of events so loose and unstructured as to appear un thought out.
